Planned event: Cradle Mountain - Roadworks

​​There are a number of upcoming road projects planned throughout January and February at Cradle Mountain that will impact on park access.

3 February 2025

  • Resurfacing works at three sites on Dove Lake Road will commence on Monday 3 February 2025 between 6pm and 6am

  • Road users may experience delays of 5 mins during these hours.

  • There will be no impact on the shuttle service.


10 - 19 February 2025 
  • ​​Ronny Creek carpark closure has been extended from Monday 10 February to Wednesday 19 February.

  • Visitors will not be able to park in the carpark on these days. 

  • Alternative car parking may be available at Waldheim or Dove Lake depending on available spaces. If all car parks are full in the national park, visitors will need to return to the Visitor Centre to use the shuttle bus service. ​

  • There will be no impact on the shuttle bus service at this location. 

19 – 21 February 2025 

  • ​The Waldheim carpark will be closed from Wednesday 19 February to Friday 21 February due to resurfacing works.

  • Visitors will not be able to park in the carpark on these days. 

  • Alternative car parking may be available at Ronny Creek or Dove Lake depending on available spaces. If all car parks are full in the national park, visitors will need to return to the Visitor Centre to use the shuttle bus service. 

  • Waldheim Cabin guests can still access their accommodation but may experience short delays of 10-15 mins when driving through the carpark. 

19 February 2025
  • Resurfacing works will commence on Cradle Mountain Road between the Visitor Centre and Interpretation Centre from Wednesday 19 February to Saturday 22 February between 7am and 6pm.

  • Road users may experience delays of 10-15 mins during these hours, including the shuttle bus.​

  • Some restrictions are in place for walking track access in this area, including the Enchanted Walk, Kynvet Falls, Lower Pencil Pine Falls & Dove Canyon Circuit.

Track closure: West Coast Bushfires -Parks & Reserve Closures

Track closure: Overland Track closure and smoke hazard
Applies from 5/2/2025

​​To ensure public safety, the northern half of the Overland Track is closed due to the Canning Peak fire from Cradle Mountain to Pelion. 

It is planned to reopen on Monday 24 February 2025. ​

Anyone who has booked to undertake the PWS Overland Track walk during the track closure will be provided a full refund.

The Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre and Cradle Mountain day walk areas remain open to visitors.

These fees are reviewed annually in line with CPI. All fees go directly towards the provision of services and maintenance of the Waldheim Cabins.​

Waldheim Cabins are located 5km inside the northern entrance of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Drive or walk along Connells Avenue from Ronny Creek.

About

​​​​​​​​​​Nestled between buttongrass plains and ancient temperate rainforest are the rustic and unique Waldheim Cabins. These cabins offer an authentic wilderness experience, allowing you to stay within Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.

Eight cabins (four, six and eight berth) provide simple and affordable lodgings, where a number of great walking tracks radiate from your front door. The cabins are equipped with electric heating, single bunk beds, basic cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and an electric stove. There are small fridges available in each cabin with limited general-use power points.

Please bring your own bedding and toiletries. Linen can be provided at a cost of $15 per person and should be organised at the time of booking. Rubbish and recycling can be removed for​ a fee of $20 organised at the time of booking.

Two amenities blocks, each with showers and flushing toilets are available for cabin guests.

Please note that all cabins are non-smoking.
