Works, Development Applications and Events

Crown land in Tasmania is managed by various Government agencies. The information below relates solely to Crown land managed under the Crown Lands Act 1976 by Crown Land Services.

Works

Prior to undertaking any works on Crown land authority must be obtained from Crown Land Services (CLS) .

Examples of works requiring Authority include:

  • Erecting, repairing and replacing temporary or permanent structures such as signs, walkways, pipe lines, buildings and marine structures
  • Weeding and revegetating; removing and lopping trees
  • Accessing Crown land for geo-technical drilling

Where the proposal involves new permanent structures, CLS may also require a further application to lease, licence or purchase the Crown land.

Changes in the use of existing structures and to existing lease or licence boundaries, may require adjustments to agreements. In some circumstances new agreements will be necessary.

The local Council also may have requirements. In some cases Council may require Planning Approval, if so CLS must be informed.

To apply for Authority to undertake works lodge a Works and/or Development Application Request form. Then CLS will conduct an initial assessment and advise on further requirements.

Development Applications

The local Council may require that Crown Consent is obtained from CLS before the lodgement of Development Applications (DA).

When applying for Crown consent to Lodge a DA with Council, lodge a Works and/or Development Application Request form. The complete and final version of the DA package also must be supplied.  In such cases, the complete DA package includes the Council Lodgement Form and any other documents such as reports and plans that are to be lodged with Council.

CLS will conduct an initial assessment and advise on further requirements once the Works and/or Development Application Request form and the complete DA package is received.

Events

Authority must also be obtained to hold events on Crown land, particularly where the event excludes public access or involves erecting temporary structures. Examples of events requiring Authority include carnivals and regattas. To apply for Authority lodge an Event Application form.
