Walking tracks closed due to fire danger

The Parks and Wildlife Service has advised that walking tracks in Freycinet, Maria Island and the Douglas Apsley national parks will be closed today, Friday, 14 March due to the high fire danger.

Parks and Wildlife Service fire operations manager Adrian Pyrke said that the tracks are closed in the interests of public safety.

"The Tasmania Fire Service has declared a statewide total fire ban due to the forecast hot, dry and windy conditions and these conditions present a risk to visitors in some of our parks," Mr Pyrke said.

The closures for Friday are as follows:
Freycinet National Park
Wineglass Bay, Mt Amos and Hazards walking tracks are closed.
Cape Tourville / Honeymoon Bay / Richardsons Beach / Isaacs Point (Friendly Beaches) Day Use Areas remain open.
Please be aware that the 4WD Track to the South Friendly Beaches remains closed until further notice for the duration of the Coles Bay Water Supply Project.

Douglas Apsley National Park
All tracks other than to the Apsley Waterhole are closed.

Maria Island
The Bishop and Clerk Track; Inland Track; and Mt Maria Track are closed.
