Overnight rain helps crews fighting Packers Spur fire

Overnight rain and cooler temperatures have halted the spread of a fire within the Adamsfield Conservation Area west of Maydena.

Fire crews are using the favourable weather to survey the area and identify hot spots.

"We will drop in remote crews to attack key areas and reduce the chance of the fire flaring up again," said incident controller Barry Hunt.

The fire, started by lightning at Packers Spur on Saturday, has so far burnt 3600 hectares and the suppression operation is expected to take a number of days.

The changed weather conditions mean there will be little smoke affecting the Derwent and Huon Valleys as well as Hobart.

The Gordon River Road remains open and it is now unlikely it will need to be closed.

"There is no reason for visitors to avoid travelling to the Maydena area and we also thank the local community for their patience," said Mr Hunt.

However the Adamsfield Conservation Area remains closed as do the following tracks: Timbs Track, Clear Hill Road, Adamsfield Track, Saw Back Range Track and Richea Creek Track.
