Liffey Falls open to visitors

23/06/2017

The iconic Liffey Falls picnic area and walking track is now open to the public following the completion of repairs to visitor facilities after flood damage last year.

Liffey Falls is one of Tasmania's 60 Great Short Walks and is a signficant attraction for locals and visitors. Its re-opening is great news for the community and local businesses that will benefit from the increase in visitor numbers.

The repairs were part of the Tasmanian Government's $8.7 million commitment to repairing flood damaged roads and bridges and prioritising repairs such as this, particularly in rural areas, play a vital role in the plan to attract 1.5 million visitors to the state annually by 2020.

The works included a track re-route of the lower Liffey walking track and new foot bridge, resurfacing works and re-establishment of assets in the lower Liffey campground; construction of a new road bridge on the upper Liffey Falls access road, Riversdale Road, and reconstruction of the road, including culvert installation and gabion works.
