Mt Strzelecki walk back on track

28/06/2019

Flinders Island’s Mt Strzelecki walking track has received an upgrade which will improve the experience for walkers and visitors, as well as environmental management.

Under the Tourism Infrastructure in Parks initiative, $40,000 has been invested in the continued improvement of the track.

The Mt Strzelecki walking track is the island’s most popular walk and is one of three Tasmania’s 60 Great Short Walks on the Island.

The project to upgrade two sections of the Mt Strzelecki track to a T2 track standard included the realignment and upgrade of the track to reduce future operational expenses and improve walker and visitor safety.

The first section was significantly damaged leading to erosion issues. Project works involved the removal of 15 metres of decaying steps, and the construction of new steps.

The second section follows natural drainage lines and was subject to severe water erosion.

The project works are complete and the track is now open to the public.
