About the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service

The Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service commenced operations in 1971 with the vision of protecting, presenting and managing in concert with the community, Tasmania's unique and outstanding reserve system for all people, for all time.

The Service is the managing authority of Tasmania's world-renowned reserve system and seeks to conserve the State's natural and cultural heritage while providing for sustainable use and economic opportunities for the Tasmanian community.

The Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) operates as a unit within the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment.
