Closed sites to be reassessed tomorrow morning

The Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) advises that the sites closed today due to high temperatures and wind gusts will remain closed tonight.

All locations will be reassessed tomorrow morning Saturday 26 January 2019 at 8am and an update will be provided.

Additional track and area locations around the state were closed this afternoon in response to the fire threat, a complete list of national park, track and area closures is available at www.parks.tas.gov.au/closures.

The Wellington Park Management Trust has advised that the following parts of Wellington Park will re-open to visitors from 8am on Saturday 26 January 2019:

  • Pinnacle Road and the summit area

  • All walking and mountain bike tracks south of New Town Rivulet

  • All tracks to the west of Big Bend Trail with the exception of the Mount Connection Track and the Big Bend Trail itself.

The Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park and the section of the North South Track to the north of its junction with Old Hobartians Track will remain closed till 8:00 am on Tuesday 29 January 2019.

As fires under hot, dry and windy conditions can travel very fast, it’s important for visitors to stay informed in case conditions change.

With the large amount of fires burning and the potential for spotting and new starts due to the weather forecast, PWS is asking people NOT to venture into remote areas from now until the end of the long weekend (Tuesday 29 January 2019).
