Update on track, national parks and reserve closures

04/01/2019

The walking tracks in the following areas will re-open tomorrow (Saturday 5 January 2019) following the easing of fire conditions around the State this afternoon.

  • Mt Field National Park (note - Mt Field Alpine Area remains closed at this stage)
  • Maria Island National Park
  • Triabunna's Reserves
  • Freycinet and Douglas Apsley national parks

Closures remain in place until further notice for the following areas in the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park - Vale of Rasselas Track, walking track to Lake Rhona, Squirrell Creek to Lake Curly, The Spires and Shining Mountain and the Denison Traverse. The Sawback Track and access to Adamsfield Track are also closed.

For safety reasons, do not commence bushwalks in this area or four-wheel driving on tracks in these areas due to the current bushfire.

The Mt Field Alpine Area also remains closed until further notice.

Although fire conditions have eased, bushfire remains a risk at this time of year. All visitors planning to visit the State's national parks and reserves are encouraged to check in at visitor centres for the latest information, heed advice at track heads, check updates on the Tasmania Fire Service and PWS websites and follow directions of PWS staff at national parks and reserves.

Stay informed in case conditions change. Monitor this website, ABC local radio and Tasmania Fire Service website www.fire.tas.gov.au for further information.

A full list of area, track and road closures is available on the PWS website - www.parks.tas.gov.au/closures.
