Next step in Freycinet upgrade

11/10/2017

Freycinet is one of Tasmania's premier tourism hotspots, with locals and visitors flocking to the area in droves to experience the region's stunning natural areas.

With visitation up seven per cent to a record 292,000 for 2016-17, Freycinet is still the State's most visited national park and remains vitally important to the East Coast as tourists visit and spend in local tourism businesses, shops and eateries.

Following a recent tender process for a consultant to develop a long-term master plan for Freycinet, Emma Riley and Associates have been selected to develop the plan.

The master plan is a vital step forward to ensuring that showcasing the area continues, and will help achieve the target to increase visitor overnight stays in regional areas by 70 per cent and increase visitor spend by 50 per cent by 2022.

The consultant will work with a steering committee comprised of tourism industry representatives, Local Government, State Government and the community to guide the development of the master plan.
