Macquarie Island Pest Eradication Project
Rabbits and rats were posing a severe threat to World Heritage values on Macquarie Island, as research from the early 2000s revealed widespread damage to terrestrial ecosystems. A project to eradicate these pests was developed to enable the restoration of Macquarie Island’s biodiversity and natural systems as much as possible. This project commenced in 2007 and was successfully completed in April 2014.
