Summer Discovery Ranger Program 2017/18

Our Summer Discovery Ranger Program runs during the peak summer period from 27 December 2017 to 29 January 2018 - and offers visitors to Tasmania's national parks the chance to join in a wide range of activities such as guided walks, evening talks, childrens' activities and much, much more. Discovery Rangers will be out in local communities sharing the wonder of the surrounding reserves at community events throughout the summer holidays.


Now in its 39th year,  the program continues to expand and innovate. This year will see our highly qualified team of Discovery Rangers working their magic at:


Western Tasmania

North-west (from Arthur-Pieman to Rocky Cape)

Northern coast (from Wynyard to Greens Beach)

North-east (from Bridport to Mt William/wukalina)

Bay of Fires (from Mt William/wukalina to Scamander)

Freycinet and Bicheno

Maria Island and Triabunna

Tasman and Forestier peninsulas

Bruny Island, Tinderbox and Peter Murrell Reserve

Discovery Rangers will be hosting a series of community Discovery Days in various locations around the State.

9.30am–12.30pm at Bicheno Memorial Hall


Sunday 7 January -  St Helens Discovery Day
1pm-3pm at Tidal Waters Resort


Tuesday  9 January - Devonport Discovery Day 
11am–2pm at Devonport Community House


Thursday 11 January - Maydena Discovery Day

10am-2pm at Maydena RSL


Friday 12 January  - Dunalley Discovery Day 
11am–2pm at Dunalley Hall



Saturday 13 January  - Adventure Bay Discovery Day

Mandarin-speaking Discovery Rangers
In addition, Mandarin-speaking Discovery Rangers will be at Freycinet, Mt Field, Maria Island and Cradle Mountain. They will provide on the ground assistance and highlight the wonders of these parks to Chinese visitors.
Aboriginal Discovery Rangers

For the first time, three indigenous Tasmanians will be presenting Tasmania's rich Aboriginal heritage to park and reserve visitors and community members across the State.
