Adamsfield is a remote destination within the Adamsfield Conservation Area and part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
Tracks in the area are suitable for bushwalking, mountain biking and 4 wheel driving, though some tracks will require vehicles to have good clearance.
All vehicles and drivers require a permit to obtain a key. If there are multiple vehicles in your group, each driver is required to apply for authority below.
All vehicles must be registered. Quad bikes and side by side must have a recreational vehicle (RV) licence.
Please note that the Sawback Range Track is closed over the wetter months. Both tracks close during periods of high fire danger.
Conditions of Entry
You are required to read and agree to the Adamsfield Conditions of Entry.
Applying for an authority
- The maximum number of vehicles permitted per day is 12 vehicles.
- The application for each vehicle in a group must be received in advance.
- Applications will not be approved if made on the same day as key collection.
- Applications will be confirmed by email and may take a few days.
To apply for an authority to visit Adamsfield or the Sawback Range Track, please complete the online form below.

- applications will be confirmed by email and may take a few days - please allow at least 48hours before you plan to travel
- bookings cannot be made until a completed application has been received and processed - it is not possible to “hold” a booking until the information is received
- if you are travelling as a group, a separate application is required for each vehicle and each driver will require an authority - if you are a member of a group, please include the name of the group or the original booking.
