Closed area: St Columba Falls State Reserve - track closures
Applies from 5/9/2024

The St Columba Falls State Reserve walking track and St Columba Falls track are currently closed due to tree falls and track damage.

Views of St Columba Falls can be seen from the carpark. Other attractions in the area include Halls Falls and the many walks at Poimena in the Blue Tier Regional Reserve.

Storms in September 2024 damaged the landslip prevention membrane which provides stabilisation for the walking track. Until the membrane is repaired and additional work to retaining walls and safety railings carried out, there is potential for further landslip of the track.

We are working on planning and assessments to have the track repaired.

About

It may be a short 30 minute drive from St Helens, and a short 15 minute walk to the falls, but those are the only short things about this experience. The standout is undoubtedly the falls: at more than 90m, one of Tasmania’s highest. The walk to the base of the falls is definitely another highlight. It takes you through cool and shady rainforest that has some of the tallest treeferns you’ll see anywhere. Once at the lookout you’ll crane your neck as you watch the South George River tumbling down in a delightful series of steep cascades. Return uphill via the same track.
