About

Mount Vandyke is the perfect choice for a challenging day walk for anyone who has moderate level bushwalking skills. It starts on the same track as for Mount Roland, but when you reach an intersection that is signed with 'The Junction,' head to the right and up the steeper track.

It offers changing scenery as you quickly ascend through the eucalypt forest before reaching the ridgeline that opens up with heath and buttongrass. Towards the ridgeline, there are sections of rock scrambling, just to keep the track a little more interesting. Some basic navigation may be required across the rock boulders.

Following the ridgeline towards Mount Vandyke, you will be rewarded with views along the range, the surrounding countryside and other distant mountains, including Cradle Mountain.

In order to reach the summit, there is a signposted turn off that will lead you along 200m to the summit. This track can become overgrown and may require basic navigation.

This walk can return on the same track, or for further variety, it can be combined with the Mount Roland track to create a circuit. By continuing along the ridgeline towards Mount Roland, you will soon reach a junction that is marked with a viewing platform and directional signage. Here, you can make the decision to continue on to Mount Roland to extend your day walk or return down the circuit track and back to the carpark.
