Closed area: Friendly Beaches Isaacs Point campground and day use area closed
Applies from 31/10/2023

Due to extensive fire damage the Friendly Beaches Isaacs Point campground and day use area will be closed until further notice while works to stabilise the site and rebuild infrastructure takes place.

PWS is aiming to restore day use access and camping by April 2025. All approvals and associated permits have been received allowing for new toilets, viewing platforms, fencing and road works to be completed prior to reopening.

The road and beach access track to a favoured surf location, just south of the Friendly Beaches campground closure, is now open for day use only. Towed vehicles are not permitted.

Freycinet Air Tasmania, the airstrip at Friendly Beaches and Freycinet Experience are still operating as normal as are businesses within Coles Bay.

Visitors to the East Coast are encouraged to choose alternative campgrounds such as Richardsons Beach and River and Rocks Campground for their stay.

Fire ban: Seasonal campfire bans are in place
Applies from 5/11/2024
Campfires, pot fires and other solid fuel stoves are banned in all parks and reserves in the following local government areas: Tasman, King Island, Flinders, Dorset, Break O’Day, Glamorgan-Spring Bay and Sorell.

They are also banned in Narawntapu National Park.

This is a seasonal ban to reduce the risk of fire over summer.

The map below shows all affected areas.  You can still use gas stoves and gas barbecues.

About

With this walk you could amble just 10 metres from the car and say you’d done it. But how likely is that when those 10 metres take you to one of the most beautiful, long, white sand beaches you’ll likely come across?

The Friendly Beaches beg for long, slow exploration. Get some sand between your toes, stare out to sea, or watch the shorebirds. If the surf’s up, you could try out the breaks. Or if surf fishing appeals, there’s enough beach for everyone.
