Walking track from Godfrey’s Beach to the base of The Nut

A new walking track from Godfrey’s Beach to the base of The Nut is one of the key initiatives identified by the PWS. This track will improve visitor safety for walkers accessing the reserve - removing the need to use Browns Road.

The walking track will run parallel to Browns Road until it enters the reserve, passing Stanley’s historic cemetery and giving visitors a chance to learn about Stanley and admire the artwork produced by local school children along the gabion fence. The track will then follow the curvature of the hill to The Nut carpark.

Approvals are in place and procurement for a works contractor is currently underway.

All access track

Improving access to our parks and reserves is a priority identified by the Tasmanian Government. A new all access track will link The Nut carpark and the sandstone obelisk at the base of The Nut.

The works will include realigning and widening the existing track from the carpark, installing handrails and providing a viewing area. Approvals are in place and procurement for a works contractor is currently underway.

Viewing platform

Investigations are underway to identify a suitable location on The Nut where a new cantilever viewing platform could be built, improving the experience for visitors to the summit.

Walking track to the wharf

The PWS is investigating the feasibility of accessing the Stanley Wharf precinct from the reserve, to allow visitors to do a loop walk of Stanley. Visitors would walk along the existing fire trail and exit the reserve via a set of steps close to the Stanley Wharf.

Interpretation Signage

Following The Nut signage project in 2020, the PWS will engage consultants to undertake a thorough review of interpretation and wayfinding in The Nut State Reserve.

New Interpretive signage will complement existing signage introducing visitors to the special features of Stanley and The Nut State Reserve.
