Works on the Kanunnah Bridge at Arthur River in the state's North-West are now complete, including pier strengthening and the installation of new barriers.

The Kanunnah Bridge is located at the junction of Sumac Road and Blackwater Road in the Trowutta Regional Reserve. It provides an important link for industry and is also part of a popular tourist route.

The bridge was identified as requiring repairs and strengthening through engineering inspections.

The $2.1 million joint project was delivered in partnership between Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and the Department of State Growth.

The project was delivered in two stages, with stage one works commencing in March 2022 to strengthen the bridge with adding additional steelworks at cost of $1.19 million. This stage was completed in July 2022 and resulted in the 27-tonne temporary load limit being removed.

Stage two works commenced onsite in September 2023 and were completed in March 2024. These works included improvements to the piers and the installation of new bridge barriers.

Both stages were delivered by Tasmanian firm Bridge Pro and the engineering assessment and evaluation completed by Pitt and Sherry.
