Have your say on Tasmania’s Next Iconic Walk

Find out more

The public is invited to have their say on plans for the Next Iconic Walk in Tasmania.

The proposed three-day, two-night walk has been designed to showcase the extraordinary environment and rich history of Tasmania's rugged West Coast.

Tasmanians caught a first glimpse of these plans at a series of information sessions held across the state in August and September 2024.

Following extensive planning and design work, we are now pleased to release the detailed plans for further public consultation as part of the Reserve Activity Assessment process.

The Next Iconic Walk proposal includes:

Accommodation nodes near Lake Huntley and near Lake Mary catering for up to 44 walkers.

Each node has one communal hut (max occupancy of 22 people), six private pods (max 12 people) and camping platforms (max 10 people).

Ranger huts with capacity for up to three people at both nodes.

Small-scale hybrid power systems of solar PV, micro hydro-electricity and battery.

Thirty-one kilometres of walking track, three day shelters, several lookouts and helipads at the accommodation nodes.

To view the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and submit your feedback on this proposal visit the Next Iconic Walk project page on our website.

Public consultation will close at 5pm on Friday 7 November 2025.
