Visitors to Flinders Island can now enjoy upgraded facilities at three popular locations: Trousers Point and Allports Campgrounds and Day Use Areas, and North East River Day Use Area.

The works are designed to improve the visitor experience and help protect the coastline environment.

Flinders Island has some of the most pristine landscapes and photogenic scenery in Tasmania. Providing sustainable access to these areas is important for driving the regional tourism economy on the island.

Improvements include upgraded campground facilities and day use areas, improved road access for recreational vehicles, new tent and RV sites, upgraded beach access and vegetation protection fencing and drainage works.

Skye Davies recently visited the island for the first time with her parents Joyce and Rhys. They were among the first to use the upgraded facilities.

“Over the last 50 years, as a family and individuals, we have travelled to many national parks across Tasmania and Australia. On our recent visit to Flinders Island, we were appreciative of the facilities provided by Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service," Ms Davies said.

“We were particularly impressed by the new track work and amenities at Trousers Point in Mount Strzelecki National Park. The solid path and stairs over the rocks and down to the beach allowed easy access for myself and my parents to see a passing pod of orcas, which made the experience all the more special."

Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service worked with Flinders Island Council, Flinders Island Business Inc and the local community to identify the areas for upgrade.

The works were completed in November 2025.
