Visitors to Dora Point Campground in the Humbug Point Nature Recreation Areawill be able to enjoy updated facilities, with the newly upgraded toilet block opening on Friday 5 June, ahead of the King’s Birthday long weekend.
The refurbishment focuses on providing a more comfortable and functional experience for campers and day visitors, while maintaining the campground’s distinctive character.
The updated amenities deliver modern, accessible features designed to better serve the needs of the many people who use the popular site each year.
A key feature of the project is the careful preservation of the original stone walls. These date back to the late 1970s and have been incorporated into the new design, allowing the site to preserve building character while benefiting from contemporary improvements.
Dora Point remains a well-loved destination for both locals and visitors, and the upgrades ensure visitors can continue to enjoy the natural surroundings with improved facilities.
Construction works, valued at $342,000, were carried out by AJR Construct Pty Ltd, with input from engineers from the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service, alongside the St Helens Field Centre.
The upgrade forms part of the broader $1,015,000 North East Parks and Reserves Upgrades program, which aims to enhance infrastructure across the region while preserving the unique qualities of its outdoor spaces.
