Since its opening on November 11, 2000, the Tamar Island Wetland Centre has thrived thanks to the dedication of its volunteers.

A committed team of 28 volunteers serve as the welcoming faces of the Centre, offering interpretation, information, and brochures to the more than 50,000 visitors who explore the wetlands each year.

Volunteer service spans from newcomers with one year of experience to long-standing contributors who have been part of the Centre for an impressive 18 years, reflecting a deep and enduring commitment to the wetlands and its visitors.

So today, we say thank you for your years of dedication.

Cathy Hurst, Anne Fitch, Susan Johns, Sadie Roberts and John Duggin are some of the longest serving volunteers at the Tamar Island Wetlands Centre.

The Tamar Island Wetlands is a unique estuarine wetland ecosystem of mudflats, lagoons and islands. The centre offers a wealth of information about the cultural and natural values of the site.

Visitors can also explore the extensive, wetland habitat that is managed by the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service by wandering along the accessible boardwalk, which is flanked by tall native Tasmanian grass species as it traverses the wetlands.
