Construction of a new Ben Lomond village walkway is now complete, in time for the peak snow season.

Ben Lomond is a popular Tasmanian destination for those seeking winter recreational activities such as skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing.

The new walkway connects the public shelter to the Snow Sports building, replacing the previous treated pine structure that was more than 50 years old.

A public tender was issued for the works in January 2025 and the project was awarded to CPT Engineering Pty Ltd who completed the works in early June.

Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service engineers designed the new walkway, with 3D modelling and detailed shop drawings undertaken by CPT Engineering. The walkway has a design life of more than 75 years, which was achieved through the construction being from steelwork with concrete footings.

The deck gratings on the new walkway have been designed to minimise the accumulation of snow and ice, providing supportive traction underfoot.

The finished walkway is 122 metres long and 2.4 metres wide. The additional width helps cater for visitors carrying skis, snowboards, toboggans as well as two-way traffic.

You can read more about the site on the Ben Lomond National Park web page.
