We enjoyed a busy three days at Agfest 2025 and welcomed approximately 10,000 people to the NRE Tas tent.

Children enjoyed the Learning Trail activities on offer, and children and adults alike made the most of learning opportunities and engaging with our team.

Of course, our stunning Wedge-tailed Eagle was a drawcard and a hit!

The team found it rewarding to see people learning about the diversity in our native animals and some of the threats they face.

Our Agriculture and Water team found that with the farming community concerned about the lack of rain and the potential for us to slip back into drought, there was considerable interest in their dam display which captivated a wide range of people and sparked a lot of conversations.

A highlight for Biosecurity Tasmania staff was being able to showcase so many of the great areas that their work encompasses and to give some attention to areas that aren't always so visible. Information and resources were available about border operations, invasive species, the Animal Health Laboratory, and apiary biosecurity.  Live demonstrations of detector dog training provided a behind-the-scenes snapshot and were very popular with visitors.

The Land Tasmania team said it was always exciting to educate new Agfest patrons about the power of spatial data and the LIST. It was even more pleasing to see return Agfest visitors come back to the LISTmap display, build on their current skills and knowledge, and embrace and adopt new emerging technologies within the spatial data industry, that will benefit their agricultural enterprises long term.

For the Waste Initiatives team, it was wonderful to share the exciting new funding opportunities made available through the Waste and Resource Recovery Board.

We always look forward to highlighting the diversity of the Department at Agfest and showcasing the wide diversity of services that NRE Tas delivers across the State. This is the largest event attended by NRE Tas each year and provides an opportunity for us to connect with the community in every area of work that we do to achieve our mission of delivering a sustainable Tasmania.

Thank you to all of you who visited us.  We look forward to seeing you again in 2026.
