​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Public submissions on the Next Iconic Walk Project are open. 

The proposal is for the development of a new multi-day hut-based bushwalk on the West Coast of Tasmania. The walk will be within the Tyndall Regional Reserve and Lake Beatrice Conservation Area. The proposal includes:
  • A three-day, two-night walk with accommodation nodes near Lake Huntley and Lake Mary.

  • 31 kilometres of walking track

  • Nodes accommodating up to 44 visitors made up of: 
    - one communal hut (max occupancy of 22 people),
    - six private pods (max 12 people)
    - camping platforms (max 10 people).

  • Two ranger huts with capacity for up to three people.

  • Small-scale hybrid systems of solar PV, micro hydro-electricity and battery to power the communal huts, private pods and ranger huts.

  • Three day shelters, several lookouts and helipads at the accommodation nodes.
