When we burn

When do we burn?

To determine the suitability of a day, we work with the Bueau of Meteorology to look at forecast weather, including predicted wind direction, speed, temperature, humidity, and underlying dryness.

In Tasmania suitable conditions for planned burning are most likely to occur in Spring and Autumn, when the fuel is not too dry or wet, the temperature and wind speed are moderate, and the atmosphere is stable. Given burns often are required to occur under certain wind direction, and where there are consecutive days of suitable weather, there may be only one or two opportunities to undertake a particular burn in any one year.

More details about our upcoming Planned Burns for this season can be found on our interactive map.
