Liffey Falls State Reserve

Access

Access Map

Liffey Falls State Reserve lies on the Western Tiers in northern Tasmania. From Launceston, the upper section of the reserve can be reached by following the Bass Highway (A1) west to Deloraine. Just before the bridge at Deloraine, turn left onto the A5. During the ascent of the A5 onto the Central Plateau, you will come to a sign-posted road which leads to the reserve.

From Hobart, take the Midlands Highway (A1) to Melton Mowbray. Turn left onto the A5 to Bothwell and continue across the Central Plateau to the Liffey Falls turn-off.

The Gulf Road Picnic Area at the lower end of the reserve can be accessed via either the Bracknell Rd (C511) or Bishopbourne Rd (C513) from Carrick. Follow the directional signs to the township Liffey and continue on the Liffey Rd (C513), which continues beyond Liffey as a gravel road (Gulf Rd) to the reserve (signposted)

The road leading to Liffey Falls is steep, winding gravel, and has several sharp bends. It is used by log trucks. Please take care. The road between the Upper Liffey Falls Picnic Area and the Lower Liffey Campground is not suitable for large vehicles, caravans and buses. If you are driving at night, please be aware that you are sharing the road with wildlife.
