Sixteen new reserves for King Island

As part of the ongoing Crown Land Assessment and Classification (CLAC) 16 new reserves have recently been proclaimed for King Island.

The CLAC project which began in 2004, assesses and classifies unallocated Crown land and public reserves under the Crown Lands Act 1976.

Throughout Tasmania, approximately 7000 properties were assessed and community consultation on King Island was completed in 2005. As a result of the CLAC project, 35 new reserves totaling 6,917 hectares on King Island will come under the management of the Parks and Wildlife Service.  The Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) will be reviewing the management needs for each reserve as they are proclaimed.

To date, 16 reserves have been proclaimed including;

Counsel Hill Conservation Area                    (1212ha)

Colliers Swamp Conservation Area               (1090ha)

Porky Beach Conservation Area                    (442.40ha)

Lavinia State Reserve Extension                     (845.50ha)

Disappointment Bay State Reserve                (69.04ha)

Seal Rocks Conservation Area                       (460.50ha)

Cataraqui Point Conservation Area               (301.10ha)

Stokes Point Conservation Area                    (252.50ha)

Red Hut Point Conservation Area                 (194.00ha)

Badger Box Creek Nature Reserve               (23.43ha)

Lilly Lagoon Nature Reserve                                     (5.14ha)

Muddy Lagoon Nature Reserve                     (34.38ha)

Eldorado Conservation Area                                     (107.50ha)

Cape Wickham Conservation Area               (101.70ha)

Deep Lagoons Conservation Area                 (3.06ha

Gentle Annie Conservation Area                  (20.21ha)
