Wielangta Road bridges complete

31/07/2017

The replacement of four bridges on Wielangta Road is now complete, signalling a major step forward in the overall upgrade of the road.

Wielangta Road is an attractive forest drive connecting Orford to Kellevie Road and the Arthur Highway, providing a picturesque scenic drive into the tourism hot spots on the East Coast.

The new bridges are part of a $2.3 million project to upgrade the road that will also include upgrading the surface of the gravel road and associated drainage works. This will improve the road's long-term sustainability as a tourism route.

The new bridges are built to withstand a one-in-100 year flood and replace bridges that were damaged and destroyed during the 2016 floods.

It will provide tourists with a safer and more reliable experience when exploring the state's stunning natural areas as they play a vital role in the vision of attracting 1.5 million visitors to the state by 2020.
